BPSC AE Eligibility

From Advertisements 29/2025, 30/2025 & 31/2025 — the degree must be in the branch of the post applied for.

You need a degree in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (the branch of the post) from an Indian university/institute approved by AICTE. A degree from a UGC-recognised deemed university counts only if it was obtained through a regularly conducted technical course — distance-mode technical degrees are not valid. Associate Membership of the Institution of Engineers — having passed Sections A and B of the Institution of Engineers (India) — or an equivalent qualification is also accepted.

Age: minimum 21 years as on 1 August 2024. The maximum age is 37 years for Unreserved (Male), 40 years for Backward Class / Extremely Backward Class (Male & Female) and Unreserved (Female), and 42 years for SC / ST (Male & Female). On top of this, department-wise maximum-age eligibility cut-off dates apply — see the official advertisement for the table for your department. Printed relaxations: Bihar Government servants get 5 more years, PwD candidates a further 10 years, and ex-servicemen 3 years plus their period of service (actual age not to exceed 57 years on the application date); a contractual Assistant Engineer service-period relaxation is also provided. The retirement age is stated as 60 years.

  • Largest blocks: AE (Civil), Water Resources — 351 posts; AE (Civil), Rural Works — 231; AE (Civil), Road Construction — 117
  • Fee concession of ₹200 applies only to Bihar State SC/ST candidates, permanent-resident Bihar women and PwD candidates with 40% or more disability
  • Department-wise maximum-age cut-off dates are printed in the advertisement — check your department before assuming eligibility

BPSC AE Exam Pattern

For merit, the written examination is weighted to 75 marks (marks obtained ÷ total examination marks × 75) and contractual work experience adds up to 25 marks (5 marks per completed working year, fractional years pro-rata).
