JEE Main 2027

● 2027 — TO BE ANNOUNCED CONDUCTED BY NTA

Last updated — Oct 2026 · checked against the official National Testing Agency (NTA) notification

JEE Main is India's national entrance for B.E./B.Tech admission to NITs, IIITs and other centrally funded technical institutes (the NIT+ system), and it is also the qualifying test for JEE Advanced and the IITs. NTA has not published the JEE (Main) 2027 bulletin yet, so every 2027 date on this page is "To be announced". The pattern, eligibility and upload rules below are from the official JEE (Main) 2026 Information Bulletin — the latest official reference — and are labelled as the previous cycle wherever they are cycle-specific.

JEE Main Eligibility

In plain words — from the JEE Main 2026 bulletin. The 2027 bulletin will restate the passing-year window.

There is no age limit for appearing in JEE Main, and no minimum Class 12 percentage is needed just to sit the test. For the 2026 cycle, only candidates who passed Class 12 in 2024 or 2025, or were appearing in 2026, could apply — the same three-year window will apply for 2027 with the years shifted.

The marks rule bites at admission, not at the exam: for a seat in the NIT+ system you must have passed Class 12 with at least five subjects and scored at least 75% aggregate (65% for SC, ST and PwD candidates), or be in the top 20 percentile of your board. For Paper 1 admission your Class 12 subjects must include Physics, Mathematics, a language, one of Chemistry / Biotechnology / Biology / Technical Vocational subject, and one more subject.

  • No age limit to appear
  • No minimum Class 12 marks to appear — the 75% / top-20-percentile rule is for NIT+ admission
  • Class 12 passing-year window: 2024, 2025 or appearing 2026 (for the 2026 cycle)
  • Your Class 12 board/state decides your Home State quota in counselling

JEE Main Exam Pattern

Paper 1 is the B.E./B.Tech paper almost everyone takes. Pattern from the 2026 bulletin.

JEE Main — Frequently Asked Questions

Who conducts JEE Main and what is the official website?

The National Testing Agency (NTA). The official website is jeemain.nta.nic.in.

Has JEE Main 2027 been announced?

No. As of 23 Oct 2026, NTA had published no 2027 Information Bulletin or dates on the official sites — every 2027 date is To be announced. The details on this page are from the official 2026 bulletin.

Is there an age limit or a minimum Class 12 percentage to appear?

In the 2026 bulletin there was no age limit and no minimum Class 12 percentage to appear. The 75% aggregate (65% for SC/ST/PwD) or top-20-percentile rule applies to admission to the NIT+ system, not to sitting the test.

How many sessions are there, and which score counts?

Two sessions a year in the 2026 cycle (January and April). Appearing in both was optional; if a candidate appeared in both, the best of the two NTA Scores was used for the merit list.

What is the marking scheme of JEE Main Paper 1?

+4 for a correct answer, −1 for a wrong answer and 0 for unanswered — for both the MCQ section and the numerical-value section. Paper 1 has 75 questions and 300 marks in total.

Do I have to capture a live photograph for JEE Main?

Yes — in the 2026 cycle the form required a live photograph captured during filling (webcam, or QR code with a mobile device), plus a scanned JPG/JPEG photograph of 10–200 KB with 80% face visible against a white background, and a signature of 10–100 KB.

What was the JEE Main application fee?

For one paper at an Indian centre in 2026: ₹1,000 (General male), ₹800 (General female), ₹900/₹800 (Gen-EWS/OBC-NCL male/female) and ₹500 for SC/ST/PwD/PwBD and Third Gender candidates. The 2027 fee is To be announced.
