BITSAT Eligibility

From §3 of the BITSAT-2026 brochure (previous cycle — closed).

You need Class 12 under the 10+2 system from a recognised board, with at least five subjects including Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics (or Biology on the PCB route), one language and one more subject. For most B.E. and M.Sc. programmes the bar is strict: at least 75% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, and at least 60% in each of the three subjects individually. For B.Pharm., B.E. Environmental and Sustainability Engg. and M.Sc. Biological Sciences, Biology/Mathematics replaces Mathematics in that rule.

Only students appearing for Class 12 in the exam year, or who passed it in the previous year, were eligible (2026 or 2025 for BITSAT-2026); those who passed in 2024 or earlier were not. There is no age limit in the brochure, and students already enrolled in a BITS campus programme cannot appear. First-rank holders of State and Central boards get direct admission to the programme of their choice, irrespective of their BITSAT score.

  • 75% aggregate in PCM with 60% in each subject (most programmes)
  • Class 12 passed in the previous year or appearing in the exam year only
  • No age limit · no domicile rule
  • Board first-rank holders — direct admission

BITSAT Exam Pattern

Test format from the BITSAT-2026 brochure. 3 hours, no break, English only.

Part II: Chemistry3090
Part III (a): English Proficiency1030

Each correct answer fetches 3 marks; each wrong answer loses 1 mark. If you attempt all 130 questions with time left, you may opt for 12 extra questions (3 each from Physics, Chemistry, Maths/Biology and Logical Reasoning) — after opting in, you cannot go back and correct the 130.

BITSAT — Frequently Asked Questions

Who conducts BITSAT and where do I apply?

BITS Pilani. The only official admissions website named in the brochure is admissions.bits-pilani.ac.in (brochure site: bitsadmission.com). The brochure warns against anyone else claiming to offer admission.

Has BITSAT-2027 been announced?

No. As of 23 Oct 2026 there was no BITSAT-2027 brochure or schedule on the official sites; all 2027 dates are To be announced. The last completed cycle is BITSAT-2026.

What marks do I need in Class 12 for BITSAT?

For most B.E./M.Sc. programmes, 75% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with at least 60% in each of the three subjects (for B.Pharm., B.E. Environmental & Sustainability and M.Sc. Biological Sciences, Biology/Mathematics replaces Mathematics in that rule). Only candidates who passed Class 12 in the previous year or are appearing in the exam year were eligible.

How many times can I attempt BITSAT, and which score counts?

A maximum of two times in a year — Session-1 and Session-2. If you appear twice, the higher of the two scores is considered for admission.

What is the BITSAT pattern and marking?

130 MCQs in 3 hours: Physics 30, Chemistry 30, English Proficiency 10, Logical Reasoning 20, Mathematics or Biology 40 — 390 marks in total, +3 for a correct answer and −1 for a wrong answer, in English only. Attempting all 130 unlocks 12 optional extra questions.

What was the BITSAT application fee?

For India/Nepal centres in 2026: one session ₹3,600 (male) / ₹3,100 (female or transgender); both sessions ₹5,600 / ₹4,600. Dubai centre: ₹7,250 for one session and ₹9,250 for both. The fee was non-refundable.

Is applying for the test the same as applying for admission at BITS?

No. Besides appearing in BITSAT, you must separately submit the admission application with your Class XII marks and programme preferences (29 April – 1 June 2026 in the 2026 cycle); the merit list for admission is prepared from that form plus your BITSAT score. Board first-rank holders get direct admission irrespective of their BITSAT score, subject to eligibility.
