KCET (UGCET) 2027

● 2027 — TO BE ANNOUNCED CONDUCTED BY KEA

Last updated — Oct 2026 · checked against the official Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) notification

KCET (officially UGCET) is Karnataka's common entrance test, run by the Karnataka Examinations Authority for Government-quota seats in Engineering and other professional courses. It is an offline, OMR-based test — and its rank is computed 50:50 from your 2nd PUC marks and your CET marks. The UGCET-2026 cycle is closed (test held 23–24 April 2026) and UGCET-2027 has not been announced. The details below are from KEA's official e-Information Bulletin-1 for CET-2026, dated 16 January 2026.

KCET Eligibility

Academic eligibility, and the domicile clauses that decide Government seats (Bulletin-1, Chapters 6 and 8).

For B.E./B.Tech: pass 2nd PUC / 12th Std / equivalent with English as one of the languages, Physics and Mathematics plus Chemistry / Bio-Technology / Biology / Electronics / Computer Science as optional subjects, with at least 45% aggregate in Physics and Mathematics along with the optional subject (40% for SC, ST, Cat-1, 2A, 2B, 3A and 3B candidates). There is no minimum marks requirement in the CET itself — the rank takes the qualifying-exam and CET marks in equal proportions (50:50) in PCM.

For a Government seat you must also satisfy one eligibility clause. Clause (a), the main one, needs at least seven academic years of study in Government/recognised institutions in Karnataka (1st standard to 2nd PUC), including passing SSLC or 2nd PUC from Karnataka. Clause (b) covers candidates who passed both PUC years in Karnataka where either parent studied in Karnataka for at least 7 years. Further clauses cover Horanadu and Gadinadu Kannadigas (who must also pass the Kannada Language Test), children of defence personnel, ex-servicemen, Central/Karnataka government employees, MPs from Karnataka, AIS (Karnataka cadre) officers, J&K migrants and CAPF personnel. A candidate who satisfies no clause is not eligible for professional courses under the Government quota — non-Karnataka candidates are assigned clause (y), which covers only B.Sc. (Nursing). The bulletin prescribes no age limit for UGCET courses.

  • 45% aggregate in PCM subjects (40% for the listed reserved categories)
  • Reservation benefits apply only under the clauses the bulletin specifies — and only if claimed in the application with the correct RD number
  • Architecture has no CET paper (admission via NATA) and Medical/Dental/AYUSH run on NEET — but KEA registration is compulsory for both routes
  • Supernumerary Quota: 5% of seats in every Engineering college, tuition waived, for meritorious candidates with family income below ₹8.00 lakhs

KCET Exam Pattern

Four subjects over two days, in four sessions. For Engineering you take PCM (180 questions, 180 marks).

PaperQuestionsMarks
Physics (Day 1, 10:30 AM – 11:50 AM)6060
Chemistry (Day 1, 2:30 PM – 3:50 PM)6060
Mathematics (Day 2, 10:30 AM – 11:50 AM)6060
Biology (Day 2, 2:30 PM – 3:50 PM)6060
Kannada Language Test — Horanadu / Gadinadu candidates only—50

Each paper is 80 minutes (the first 10 minutes are for writing/shading your particulars on the OMR sheet). There is NO negative evaluation for wrong answers, but multiple answers to one question earn no marks. You must compulsorily affix your left-hand thumb impression on the OMR sheet after each session — without it the sheet is not scanned and no result is published.

KCET Syllabus — What to Study

Bulletin-1 (Chapter 9) states the question papers are based on the First and Second PUC syllabi prescribed by the Department of Pre-University Education of Karnataka State.

How to Apply for KCET

Applications for 2027 are To be announced. The 2026 process was:

  1. 1Read Bulletin-1 and confirm you satisfy one eligibility clause for Government seats before applying — the bulletin warns the fee will not be refunded for any reason.
  2. 2Open the UGCET online application (application-cum-verification module) on the KEA portal and register with your own mobile number and email ID — one mobile number can be used for only one application, and it cannot be changed later. Your name must match across the SSLC marks card, Aadhaar card and caste/caste-income certificates.
  3. 3Fill the application: personal details, eligibility clause, category/reservation claims and study details. Enter the SATS number and the RD numbers of your certificates carefully — reservation details are auto-verified through Revenue Department web services.
  4. 4Upload the scanned photograph and submit.
  5. 5Pay the application fee online by the last date. Keep at least three printouts of the submitted application, the fee-paid proof, and 2–3 copies of the uploaded photograph.
  6. 6Complete document verification as directed, then download the Admission Ticket and, after results, the verification slip from the Candidate Portal.

Bulletin-1 does not state the application-fee amount — it fixes only the last date to pay and says the fee once paid is not refunded, so check the fee on the official UGCET portal when you apply. The only fee the bulletin itself prescribes is the Agriculturist Quota practical test fee: ₹500 (General/OBC) / ₹250 (SC/ST/Cat-1).

Documents Required — With Sizes

Originals from Chapter 13 of Bulletin-1, verified at your college or at KEA as per your claim certificate — only candidates holding a verification slip can enter options for seat allotment. The bulletin prescribes no upload file sizes for these documents.

  • CET application printout
  • SSLC / 10th Standard Marks Card
  • 2nd PUC / 12th Standard Marks Card
  • Seven Years Study Certificate — countersigned by the BEO/DDPI (not required for CBSE/CISCE study certificates)
  • Caste / Caste-Income Certificate with RD number, in your own name — Form D (SC/ST), Form E (Cat-1), Form F (2A/2B/3A/3B); plus an Income Certificate with RD number for fee exemption / SNQ claims
  • Article 371(j) Kalyana-Karnataka certificate in Annexure-A, with RD number (if claimed)
  • If applicable: Kannada Medium / Rural Study Certificates, parent-based clause documents, Horanadu/Gadinadu affidavit, J&K Migrant Identity Card, special-category certificates (NCC, Sports, Defence, CAPF, etc.)

KCET — Frequently Asked Questions

Can a student from outside Karnataka take KCET for an engineering seat?

Not for a Government-share seat. Bulletin-1 states the test determines eligibility/merit for Karnataka candidates (and wards of J&K migrants) for the Government share of seats, and every Government-seat claim needs one eligibility clause (a)–(o). Non-Karnataka candidates are assigned clause (y), which makes them eligible only for B.Sc. (Nursing).

Is there negative marking in KCET?

No. Bulletin-1 states in capitals: "THERE WILL BE NO NEGATIVE EVALUATION WITH REGARD TO WRONG / INCORRECT ANSWERS" — but no marks are given if you shade more than one answer for a question.

How is the KCET engineering rank calculated?

By taking marks in equal proportions (50:50) from the qualifying examination (2nd PUC/12th) and the CET, in the PCM subjects. There is no minimum CET marks requirement.

I studied only my 11th and 12th in Karnataka. Am I eligible for a Government seat?

Possibly, under clause (b) — if you passed both PUC years in Karnataka and either of your parents studied in Karnataka for a minimum of 7 years. Otherwise the main clause (a) needs 7 years of study in Karnataka from 1st standard to 2nd PUC, including passing SSLC or 2nd PUC from Karnataka.

Do I need KCET for Architecture or MBBS in Karnataka?

There is no CET paper for either. Architecture admission is through NATA-2026 and Medical/Dental/AYUSH through NEET — but in both cases you must still compulsorily register for CET-2026, fill the application and pay the fee to be eligible for KEA counselling.

What happens if I forget to affix my thumb impression on the OMR sheet?

Your sheet will not be scanned and your result will not be published. Bulletin-1 makes the left-hand thumb impression after each session compulsory, and states the same consequence in a formal note.

What is the Kannada Language Test, and who must take it?

It is a 50-mark, 4th-standard-level test (22 Apr 2026 for the 2026 cycle) held only at Bengaluru, Belagavi, Vijayapura and Mangaluru, for Horanadu and Gadinadu Kannadiga candidates claiming Government seats under clauses (c)/(d). You must score at least 12 out of 50 to be assigned a rank. Candidates under clause (n) (10 years of Kannada-medium study outside Karnataka) are exempt.

Can I claim reservation in KCET if I forgot to claim it in the application?

No. Bulletin-1 states repeatedly that reservation can be claimed only if it is claimed in the online application with the correct RD number entered; a candidate who does not claim a reservation in the application, or cannot produce the matching original certificate, is not eligible for that reservation.
